The Bakken Shale is one of the largest resource plays in the world and underlies many western counties in North Dakota and Eastern Montana. Since the first Bakken discovery well drilled in 2000, over 46,000 wells have been drilled. The US Geological Survey estimates there are 3.65 billion barrels of recoverable crude oil, 2.0 trillion cubic fee of gas and 150 million barrels on natural gas liquids in the Bakken.
